A Marathon of Experiences

Doug and I completed our first marathon this week! After months of training and building up to it, it has finally come and gone. It was quite an experience. We ran the Walt Disney World Marathon in Orlando. The only negative to the whole weekend was the weather. Who would have known it would be freezing. We had to wear multiple layers thinking to shed as we ran but it stayed cold throughout the race that we never shed any. Here is a picture of us crowded into an outdoor tent while waiting for the race to start. It did help block the wind but it was still bitter cold.
I was so excited but the cold pretty much made the run miserable. At mile 14, we ran out of Magic Kingdom onto and interstate leading to Animal Kingdom and the wind picked up. At that point, I turned to Doug letting him know I no longer cared about trying to finish in a certain time...I just wanted to FINISH and get somewhere WARM!!As cold as it was, the atmosphere couldn't have been better, there were spectators and entertainment all along the way. Doug has even reconsidered his "Never running a marathon again" policy saying he would do it again if it is the Disney one. And despite the weather, we did finish!! Here is a picture of us with my sister and her friend back at the hotel with our medals. We didn't take it there because it was too cold to stick around. We had to sit in the car with the heater turned on waiting for the rest of our party to finish.

We look worse than we feel. Our faces were chapped and wind blown. We made it, that is all that matters. HahahaWe did take the girls to Disney one day while there. But that is another post in and of itself. To occupy the rest of the time, my aunt had the brilliant idea of going to Downtown Disney which is free and loaded with entertainment for the girls...in their minds they were in parks the whole time! Here is us in front of the Lego store. That dragon is made completely out of Legos! The girls saw it and said, "Look Mama, it is Pete's Dragon" (that is my favorite movie). It made me so happy, we took a picture with it!
