Farewell Nanie

We have started a huge endeavor this past week. We took Keely's "nanie" that she sleeps with in order to break her thumb sucking habit. It has left all of us sleep deprived. Though I must admit it is not going as badly as I originally thought. It took us several days to figure out how to keep her thumb out, but after pulling off tape and mittens and licking off Listerine, Dr Lowe talked to her and she "decided" she wanted to give "nanie" to Mr. Russell (who has jokingly told her all basketball season he wanted a nanie too). The day Dr Lowe talked to her we went to the store, bought a Barbie for her reward, put it on the shelf and wrapped up nanie. That night she went to bed without fussing (though we heard her talking for 2 hours before she actually fell asleep). She woke up at 5 AM asking for her Barbie, we told her it was still night and as soon as it was morning she could have it. Her mornings start a lot earlier now...anywhere from6-6:30. The key is to let her out before she wakes up Macey!

Getting rid of Macey's paci was much easier. I clipped it and told her it broke. She cried, then asked if she could throw it away. I told her she could, so she put it in the trash can and hasn't asked for it since. No crying, just straight to bed. Lesson learned: I will force the paci on every child. She too wanted a present for Mr Russell so we gave her a backup paci that she never would take and she gave it to him.
Mr Russell was quite a trooper acting so excited to be receiving stinky, old, sleeping items. But the faces in the girls was priceless. It made Keely feel good to know she was making someone else so happy with her prized posession. And it does seem to get a little easier each night.
On a completely different note, all three kids gave us a concert in the car the other night. It was adorable so I took a quick snipit of it. Hope you can hear all three children joining in!
